Amazon is being tipped to shake up the way it charges its Prime membership, adding a monthly option for the first time.
According to CNN, Amazon will charge $10.99 a month for its free-shipping service – which also includes its Prime Music, Prime Video and Kindle Lending Library services – alongside the existing $99 annual option.
What’s more, Prime Video will now be offered as a standalone subscription for the first time too, costing $8.99 a month.
At $107.88 a year compared to $99 for the annual Prime subscription that may not sound great value, but the more obvious target is Netflix, which has just raised its cheapest tier to $9.99 a month.
For now, there’s no news on last year’s rumours that Amazon Prime Music would also be broken out as a standalone subscription.
