YouTube has taught us that there’s a big audience online for children’s music videos. Amazon is aiming to prove that it can be a big hit in an audio-streaming service too. The company has already released several ‘family’ albums through its Prime Music service, and now they’re being joined by four more on an exclusive basis. Straight away there’s an album called ‘Novelties’ by a band called Recess Monkey, which promises tracks including ‘Time to Make the Donuts’ and ‘Sweaty Yeti’, while later this year there’ll be more original albums from Lisa Loeb, Bob Schneider and Evanescence singer Amy Lee. It’s the latest sign that while elsewhere in the streaming ecosystem the term ‘exclusive’ is focused on new albums from big-name artists, Amazon is taking its own, more focused take on commissioning original music for its family audience.
