With the first crop of streaming analytics companies acquired by bigger fish – Semetric by Apple and Next Big Sound by Pandora respectively – there’s a new wave of independent music-data startups in the industry. One of those is French firm Soundcharts, which has today announced a €320k seed-funding round. The company, which was founded by former Universal Music France exec David Weiszfeld, already has impressive traction, with more than 6k users across all three majors, Beggars Group, Kobalt and BMG among other music firms. The company tells Music Ally that 80% of its traffic is already international, and we’ve been hearing good things about the platform from some of its early users. “Soundcharts processes, analyses and archives a mass of information in realtime, and gives meaning to all of this data thanks to an intuitive and ergonomic dashboard,” said Weiszfeld, who says that the company is targeting advertising agencies as well as labels, managers, publishers and producers as potential clients.
