Crowdmix isn’t the only new social-music app in town: US startup MyFyx launched its own app this week for Android and iOS. Its pitch: “Find friends who love the same music that you do, and discover and download new music from artists inspired by your favourites – all for free.” This is much more in the vein of SoundCloud’s free tier then: artists upload their own music to the service for streaming and download. “MyFyx is uniquely dedicated to the 99% of all music that exists on earth, which is unknown, undiscovered and often underground,” explains a ‘manifesto’ on the company’s website. “Famous and popular artists are also welcome at MyFyx, so long as they are willing to give away their music entirely for free.” In comparison to Crowdmix’s high-profile hires, the executives behind MyFyx are staying anonymous for now beyond saying that they’re a group drawn from the investment, tech and PR worlds.
