A small but significant step for Google’s music-subscription services, as it extended their free trials to four months.

As 9 to 5 Google noted, this may be a limited US event to celebrate the 4 July public holiday. New users can sign up for a four-month free trial to both Google Play Music and YouTube Red, before deciding whether to shift onto the standard $9.99-a-month subscription. The offer is only available in the US, YouTube Red’s launch market. Three months has been the standard trial length for services without a free tier, so an extra month will give users more time to get wrapped into Google Play’s catalogue and features, as well as YouTube Red’s offline features and exclusive shows. Google has yet to declare public numbers for the number of subscribers on either service.
