Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast was announced a few months ago, but yesterday the freemium mobile game went live on Android and iOS. Based on the metal band’s famous mascot Eddie, the game sees fans “fight legions of unrelenting enemies as you piece together the shattered remnants of Eddie’s soul, and ultimately save the universe”.

It sounds like there’s plenty of fan-service in the game, from different versions of Eddie inspired by various albums from Iron Maiden’s back catalogue, to the inclusion of “previously-unreleased” versions of famous tracks – the ‘previously-unreleased’ is making us wonder if there’s a re-recording / rights ownership story to be told here. Anyway, the game is free to download and will make its money from in-app purchases of its ‘Ironite’ virtual currency.
