De La Soul are the latest artist to team up with Finnish firm Rovio and its Angry Birds franchise. The rap trio have composed a new track for the Angry Birds Action! game – the song is called ‘Action’ – while also being “birdified” into characters for the game.
Rovio is also launching a one-week event in-game that will give players unlimited energy so they can play as much as they want. While Angry Birds had been seen as a brand on the slide compared to more-lucrative mobile games, the recent Angry Birds Movie did well at the box office. De La Soul, meanwhile, get a nice plug (pun not entirely intended) ahead of the release of their new album ‘And the Anonymous Nobody’ in August. Rovio has previously worked with Green Day (in 2012 for an appearance in the Angry Birds Friends game) and Shakira (for puzzle game Love Rocks) from the music world.
