Live-streaming video app Live.ly has now been downloaded more than 2m times on iOS since its launch a few weeks ago. Launched by lip-dub startup Musical.ly, the Periscope and YouNow rival has already attracted musician Jason Derulo among other celebrities.

The company’s North American president Alex Hofmann has been talking to Variety about the next steps, including an Android version of the app, and monetisation features for its broadcasters. It’s planning to follow the likes of YouNow and Twitch with a virtual gifting system, so that fans can buy animated stickers with the revenues shared with the channels they are bought within. “You could give a ‘gift’ to the broadcaster, and your name or your comment will become more visible in the live stream,” said Hofmann. Derulo has apparently been drawing 1m views per session on Live.ly so far, building on his previous relationship with Musical.ly.
