The ‘verified’ tick on Twitter has become a signal for public figures and brands of all kinds. Musicians included, with Twitter’s music team working hard to ensure prominent artists get the blue verified badge on their accounts, and access to a growing number of features that go with it.

Now the social network is making it easier for people to apply for verified status, with a new application process. “We want to make it even easier for people to find creators and influencers on Twitter so it makes sense for us to let people apply for verification,” said VP of user services Tina Bhatnagar. It’ll be down to Twitter’s team to decide who qualifies as a person “of public interest” though, so expect a few sad faces from musicians who apply but don’t quite make the cut.
