Facebook has announced that broadcasts using its Facebook Live tool can now be up to four hours long – double the previous maximum limit. That’s good news for any musicians planning livestreams of lengthy gigs or studio sessions.

Other new features include the ability to go live in full-screen mode, and the option to hide reactions and comments on their live videos – “a welcome move after users complained about seeing reaction emoji and troll comments flying around on screen on hard-hitting videos,” according to TheNextWeb. Facebook is putting a major push behind Facebook Live at the moment, committing more than $50m in payments to media and digital influencers to use the feature, as well as giving it high prominence in the social network’s news feed algorithm. In fact, Music Ally was talking to the owners of some (non-music) YouTube channels earlier this week, who all said they’ve shifted their Facebook efforts from native uploads to live broadcasts, since the engagement on the latter is rocketing.
