Music Ally reported on the launch of the Open Music Initiative earlier this year, but now the body has provided an update on its early progress.

It has added more than 60 new members since its launch in mid-June, including Sonos, Bandsintown and Doppler Labs. OMI has also been running its first ‘Summer Lab’ scheme, which brought together 18 ‘student fellows’ to work on music/tech prototypes with an open-source framework, under the wing of IDEO and the MIT Media Lab. Among the prototypes developed: INTRSTLR is an app that highlights unknown connections between different artists; Lucy riffs on holograms and AR to create “interactive representations of an artist’s performance”; Beam taps music being played at a certain location; and Aura tries to take a new approach to music recommendations.
