Nielsen has published its annual Music 360 study of American listeners, including their preferred methods of accessing music. Radio remains popular, with respondents preferring it as their music source 27% of the time, compared to 20% for their digital collections; 12% for on-demand streaming services; 11% for personal radio (e.g. Pandora); 10% apiece for streaming video and physical music collections; and 4% for streaming live radio. Or to put those stats another way: 33% for streaming; 31% for live radio; and 30% for their own collections. Meanwhile, the percentage of Americans using any online music service has risen from 75% last year to 80% now.
