Amazon has acted quickly after some owners of its Echo speaker realised they could listen to unreleased preview clips of the new Lady Gaga album ‘Joannne’. A devilish hack? Er, no: all fans had to do was say ‘Play Joanne by Lady Gaga’ to their Echo, to be served up 30-second preview clips for the album. Unsurprisingly, several recorded the clips and have shared the more widely online. This certainly isn’t the worst pre-release leak there could be – it’s not as if Amazon made the full album available – but in a tightly-controlled campaign dripfeeding information about Gaga’s latest album, it’s somewhat embarrassing for Amazon. Or *puts on tin-foil hat* could it have been part of that campaign? (Caveat: almost certainly not).
