Universal Music has announced a new milestone for its Spinnup digital distribution platform. It now has more than 100,000 unsigned artists distributing their music via Spinnup. Well, not all of them are unsigned any more: Spinnup was always partly intended as a funnel of talent for Universal, and the group has signed 29 artists to deals with its labels since the platform launched in Sweden in 2013. Spinnup says its biggest success so far is Swedish house duo Vigiland, who’ve been played more than 250m times on Spotify, where they currently have more than 1.5 million monthly listeners. To celebrate the 100,000 artists milestone, Spinnup’s UK arm is launching a campaign called Sound Advice that will enable British artists to release singles for free via the platform between 21 November and 31 December, and get feedback from Universal UK scouts on their music.
