Music distributor CD Baby has snapped up digital marketing tool Show.co and its Soundrop platform, for an undisclosed amount. The company started off as Soundrop, a consumer-focused service that blended chat-rooms and playlist creation. It then pivoted into Show.co, a B2B tool helping artists and labels run social marketing campaigns. CD Baby says it will keep Show.co running for its 5,000+ label and artist clients, but it’s planning to revive Soundrop as “the new springboard for artists looking for an alternative distribution approach, one that favors constant creation and single-first strategies”. That move follows CD Baby’s acquisition of distribution service Loudr earlier this year. “Entering into music distribution was always the dream, as that’s the ultimate fan connection, now it’s soon to be the reality,” said former Soundrop CEO Jørn Haanæs in a statement.
