Research firm J Walter Thompson Intelligence has published its annual report on trends for the next year, from culture and travel to beauty and tech. New witches, DNA tourism, gamevertising (ugh!), vagina-nomics and blockchain luxury are some of the topics that don’t quite fall into Music Ally’s realm of expertise, but there are quite a few trends identified by the report that do. AI art is hailed as important, for example, but with AI tech like neural networks positioned firmly as tools for (human) artists to use, rather than as any kind of replacement. The report also predicts a big push on augmented reality spurred by Apple; a spike in broadband penetration in India; more developments around the idea of social virtual reality; and also new advertising formats for VR. Meanwhile, if 2016’s political developments have been a bit too much for you, rejoice in the fact that – according to JWT – 2017 will be the year of ‘Marijuana: the new rosé’.
