“It’s 8:00 am on a Tuesday morning. You’ve awoken, scanned the headlines on your phone, responded to an online post, ordered a holiday sweater for your mom, locked up the house, and are driving to work, listening to some great new music on the radio. You’ve also used artificial intelligence (AI) more than a dozen times…” So begins a blog post on Facebook’s developer blog, which aims to explain how and why AI is already pervasive in our digital world. “AI is going to bring major shifts in society through developments in self-driving cars, medical image analysis, better medical diagnosis, and personalised medicine. And it will also be the backbone of many of the most innovative apps and services of tomorrow. But for many it remains mysterious,” continues the blog post, which is introducing a new series of educational videos produced by Facebook to introduce AI to the masses. Or at least to the masses of developers who are most likely to encounter the videos. It’s a useful primer for anyone in the music industry who wants to learn more about AI – albeit one unlikely to explore some of the more negative potential issues around this technology and its use by big tech companies.
