Remember Soundrop? The Norwegian startup was one of the first to explore making streaming playlists more social, turning them into ‘listening rooms’ for fans to gather in. Its service was eventually shut down as the company pivoted to B2B artist-marketing tool Show.co – which was recently acquired by distributor CD Baby. Anyway, the team behind the original app (as well as another Spotify-powered app Remoteless) have released something new: JoinMyPlaylist. The iPhone app is tapping some of the same ideas as the original Soundrop. “It has never been easier or more engaging to experience music live with others. Join one of the vibrant live playlists Chill Out, Indie, Electronica, Electro House, Rock or just create a new live playlist from your Spotify playlists,” explains its App Store listing. “Listen to music with other fans and artists. Vote up the music you want to play next. Give other listeners your reactions. Chat with music fans around the world, or just your friends.” The task, as with Soundrop, will be to find a sustainable business model around all this social listening.
