When we first encountered Dutch startup Kollekt.fm in 2015, it was one of the companies trying to help music fans connect and combine different music-streaming sources.

Then, in May 2016, we spotted a new app go live from the company called Atmosphere, aimed at businesses. That turned out to be a test, but now Atmosphere has launched commercially.

Aimed at businesses and venues, it provides curated playlists from musicians, DJs, producers, label owners and other experts, with customers able to bag exclusivity on their chosen curator. Since its soft launch, Atmosphere has made its way into 84 venues around the world, including restaurants and shops, who are using its smartphone and tablet apps to power their music.

It’s also recruiting more people for its roster of curators. The most direct competition is Spotify-backed Soundtrack Your Brand, although it’s more focused on big chains.
