We’re not sure whether the Guinness World Records people will be scrambling to acclaim the world’s first virtual-reality album. But hats off to rock band Saint Motel anyway, for bagging that particular achievement.
Signed to WMG subsidiary Elektra Records, the band’s new album ‘saintmoteltelevision’ will have every track released as a 360-degree video on 28 June, with an app due out the same day showcasing the videos.
According to Billboard, the project builds on previous ‘virtualizers’ released by the band. “When we made our first Virtualizer we weren’t sure we’d ever make another, much less create a set of rules for future ones to follow,” said frontman AJ Jackson.
“But it ended up being the simplicity and continuity of mixing lyric videos, visualizers, live videos, 360 graphics, all from a set position that eased our fans into the new medium.”
