Spotify’s latest video series is also a sponsored one: Music Happens Here is produced “in partnership with Live Nation and presented by Hilton”.

Its focus is on storied music locations: “some of the most iconic places around the world where music has been created, performed, and celebrated” as the blurb puts it.

The show has just launched its second episode, focusing on London: cue Bob Marley in Chelsea, David Bowie turning into Ziggy Stardust and, er, OneRepublic covering Oasis’ ‘Champagne Supernova’ in Abbey Road Studios.

Nashville and New York are to come, with the promise of “experiential music events” (translation: concerts) for members of Hilton’s Honors loyalty scheme to come. The question is whether this is a show conceived to attract a brand rather than to attract viewers.
