The CES technology show is underway in Las Vegas, including a blizzard of new-product and partnership announcements.
As we predicted, Alexa vs Google Assistant is one of the show’s big themes, with Google setting out its stall yesterday for new devices including its smart assistant.
“The Assistant is coming to new voice-activated speakers from Altec Lansing, Anker Innovations, Bang & Olufsen, Braven, iHome, JBL, Jensen, LG, Klipsch, Knit Audio, Memorex, RIVA Audio and SōLIS,” explained the company in a blog post.
But it’s also taking its Assistant to ‘smart displays’ that will rival Amazon’s Echo Show, with JBL, Lenovo, LG and Sony already signed up as partners.
Google’s blog post outlines other partnerships with TVs, headphones and cars – Google Assistant is now part of its Android Auto platform.
Meanwhile, the company has also launched a directory of ‘actions’ (Google Assistant’s equivalent of Alexa’s ‘skills’) to help people realise what they can do with the tech – music included.
