You wait 10 years for another ringtones story to come along in the Music Ally Bulletin and then… well, only one turns up at once. But it comes from a famous name: Jac Holzman, the founder of Elektra Records.
He has teamed up with his son, Adam, for a synth-led album called ‘Cosmic Ringtones & Sonic Realms… Your Universe Is Calling’, which is a follow-up to the ‘Authentic Sound Effects’ albums that he pioneered in the 1960s.
The hope: that there is still a $200m annual market in ringtones even in 2018, and that cosmic space noises may be exactly the sounds to capitalise.
“I decided that having a theme-based collection, created specifically for the ringtone market, was the ticket forward. I’ve always been interested in astronomy, and selecting various objects and concepts from cosmology fit the ringtone world perfectly,” said Holzman as the album was released. The album is also available to stream and as a CD.
