Could the world’s biggest social network have plans to park its tanks on the X Factor and The Voice’s lawns? Researcher Jane Manchun Wong has uncovered what may be plans for a new Facebook feature called ‘Talent Show’ by digging around in the code of its app.
“Wong has discovered an interface that allow users to pick a song from a list of popular tunes, which is then followed by a way to start recording yourself singing the track in question,” reported TechCrunch.
“The app’s code also makes references to the feature as ‘Talent Show’ and includes mentions of elements like ‘audition’ and ‘stage.’ The auditions are loaded as videos, Wong notes.”
(Although in her tweets revealing the code, she described it more as “like a cross between Musical.ly and Fifteen Million Merits from Black Mirror” – possibly not the dystopian science-fiction comparison that Facebook will be using if and when it launches and promotes the feature.)
In any case, Talent Show would be an interesting step on from the recently-unveiled Lip Sync Live feature, which takes advantage of Facebook’s licensing deals with music rightsholders.
