Triller licenses song-preview clips via 7digital deal

Social video app Triller has made its latest licensing move, via a partnership with B2B firm 7digital. The latter company says that the deal will “grant Triller access to previews for millions of songs from the world’s largest music labels” as well as managing reporting to the labels on its behalf.

It sounds comparable to the deal that 7digital signed with in May 2016, then renewed a year later. The deal also follows Triller’s first direct, global licensing deal with a major label, signed with Universal Music Group in June.

Triller says it has added two million users since then, taking it to a community of 30 million people creating their own spins on popular music videos. The company also raised a $5m funding round to push on with its app in February this year, following a $4.5m seed round in May 2016. “7digital’s prominent presence in countries outside of the US will help to further increase Triller’s global footprint,” said its CEO Mike Lu.
