We reported last month on blockchain-music startup Audius raising $5.5m for a proposed service that’s been described as ‘SoundCloud on the blockchain’. Now the company has revealed its slate of advisors, including some familiar faces from the music industry.
Among Audius’ advisors are: Beatport CEO Robb McDaniels; former Avicii manager Ash Pournouri; Pandora head of artist product Shamal Ranasinghe; Twitch co-founder Justin Kan; and Michael Faibisch, the head of business development for the Ultra Music Festival. CEO Ranidu Lankage announced their recruitment yesterday. “I’m excited to be an advisor to Audius and support Ranidu on their mission to help artists make a living. Audius is bringing fresh thinking and approaches to connecting artists with their fans and finding them more monetisation opportunities,” added Ranasinghe in a LinkedIn post highlighting the news. While this is more likely a personal interest rather than Pandora involvement, his participation is one of the most public links we’ve seen between a mainstream streaming service and a blockchain startup. We await Audius’ private beta, due later this year, with interest.
