US satellite-radio service SiriusXM has been coming under sustained fire for its lobbying around the proposed Music Modernization Act legislation, which this week has reached a crucial stage in its passage through the US Senate. Now artists are making a renewed effort to put pressure on the company, through a letter signed by more than 150 creators and industry executives.
Katy Perry, Pink, Sia, Sir Paul McCartney, Don Henley, Carole King, Carly Simon and others are among the co-signatories to the letter addressed to SiriusXM’s senior executives, as well as the board of Liberty Media. “As you are aware, 415 Representatives and 76 Senators have already cosponsored the MMA along with industry consensus. It’s SiriusXM vs all of us. We can either fight to the bitter end or celebrate this victory together,” suggests the letter. And on the subject of that fight.. “We do not want to fight and boycott your company but we will as we have other opponents.”
