Amazon’s music-streaming service has a new flagship playlist called Pop Culture. Focusing on all things pop, the playlist launched on Friday with an exclusive new track from Sia called ‘Step By Step’, under its Amazon Original banner.

Amazon says that the new playlist will be updated once a week, on Fridays, with “the most buzzworthy songs across the current pop music landscape”. As with other Amazon Music playlists, it can be accessed via the service’s mobile app, as well as through the Alexa voice assistant.

Amazon is steadily building out flagship playlists in the same way that Spotify, Apple Music and other rivals have. In our recent report on country-music and streaming – an area where Amazon is one of the key players – we wrote about the company’s launch of its Country Heat playlist earlier this year in 35 countries. It has since grown to become the third most-streamed playlist on Amazon’s service. Pop Culture should appeal to Amazon’s mainstream audience: let’s see how it grows in the months ahead.
