Although it got slightly lost in the wider hubbub around direct uploads from artists, Spotify also recently revealed its list of ‘preferred’ and ‘recommended’ distributors, with DistroKid the only one in the former category, and CD Baby, EmuBands, FUGA and The Orchard included in the latter. Spotify subsequently revealed that it had invested in DistroKid.
Now Apple Music has made its own list of preferred distributors available, choosing three for its top tier of ‘Preferred Plus’ companies: CD Baby, The Orchard and Kontor New Media. A longer list of 20, including all the usual suspects (AWAL, FUGA, TuneCore and yes, DistroKid) are listed as ‘Preferred’ distributors. Hypebot reports that the top three will get access to ‘advanced’ analytics as well as early access to new product features.
