spotify

Spotify has launched its latest original video show, The Break, which focuses on how a series of emerging hip-hop artists got their first break in the industry. Tierra Whack, Taz Taylor and LVRN are among the musicians featured. One interesting aspect: the show will be hosted within RapCaviar and other prominent playlists on Spotify. That represents a step on from the company’s existing strategy of embedding interview clips and performance videos within playlists: now they will be able to host full (albeit shortform – the first episode lasts for five minutes 34 seconds) video shows too.

Also interesting: there’s an advertising tie-in to The Break, in the form of a partnership with fizzy-drinks brand Sprite. It’s supporting a ‘companion series’ called Sprite Breakthroughs, which will focus on the crews behind the emerging hip-hop artists. There’ll be six episodes, which we’re going to assume will only appear for free Spotify users rather than paying subscribers. There’s a trailer for the Sprite series on YouTube already.
