EDM duo The Chainsmokers are the latest artist to explore the potential of selling samples (or in this case, ‘sound packs’) for music-making software. They are working with apps firm Gismart, providing sounds for its popular Beat Maker Go app, which has been downloaded more than 20m times since its launch in 2017. The sound packs gather samples from hits including ‘Closer’, ‘Paris’ and ‘Roses’, and will sit within Beat Maker Go’s system of subscriptions.
Users pay $7.99 a week or $19.99 a month for access to all the app’s content, although packs can also be unlocked for free by watching ads. Details of any revenue-sharing model as part of the partnership remain under wraps for now, but this is the first time major ‘artist-branded content’ has been launched within Beat Maker Go. “Our collaboration with The Chainsmokers signifies the start of a bold new marketing strategy across a number of Gismart’s leading music apps and games,” said Gismart’s marketing and business development manager Lana Meisak, so clearly there’s an appetite for more deals at the company.
