Sonos has always focused on devices for the home, from connected speakers to soundbars. Now it may be getting ready to take its technology on the move with the development of high-end headphones.

“The wireless, over-the-ear headphones are still in the early development stages and could be launched by next year,” reported Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with Sonos’ plans. “Sonos is focusing on audio quality and the ability to work with multiple music services and digital assistants, like its latest internet-connected speakers.”

The report suggests the headphones may have a price tag of $300 or more, reflecting their high-end status. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, since Sonos hinted at its plans in November 2018, in its last financial report. “We realise that while approximately 50% of listening happens in the home, the other 50% happens outside the home,” explained the company then. “In FY2019, we plan to push our boundaries by investing resources to make the experience of Sonos outside the home a reality.”
