OPM stands for Original Pilipino Music – pop songs from the Philippines stretching back several decades. A popular genre on Spotify: in fact, OPM will soon cross the milestone of 10bn streams, according to the company.

“OPM streams more than doubled in the last year,” Spotify’s MD of south east Asia Gautam Talwar said last week, according to Business World. He was speaking at the launch event for a new campaign designed to capitalise on this popularity. Spotify Jams: OPM Love Songs is commissioning current artists to cover classic OPM tracks from the past. Moira Dela Torre, Sarah Geronimo, IV of Spades and Silent Sanctuary are among the artists taking part.

The songs will be released one by one through Spotify’s Tatak Pinoy playlist, which (in a reflection of OPM’s popularity) has nearly 923,000 followers on the service.

In separate news, Spotify has promoted its MD in Australia, Jane Huxley, to a global role. She’ll now work from London as MD for EMEA, reporting to Spotify’s global head of markets Cecilia Qvist. Spotify confirmed the appointment to Music Ally this morning, while declining to give further details.
