A new US startup called Loop Media plans to launch a video-streaming service focusing on short-form content, including music videos. The company will also focus on film trailers, game trailers and TV clips, with plans to make all this content available in public spaces, as well as on people’s smartphones.
“Loop plans to link in-home and out-of-home by entertaining consumers watching at home, on-the-go or in public venues with others. We’ll work with bars, restaurants, hotels, resorts, cruise lines, airlines, stadiums and universities to make sure your Loop experience is available wherever possible,” said CEO Jon Niermann, formerly of Electronic Arts and Disney.
Vevo’s former VP of growth and product marketing Aaron Burcell is COO of Loop Media, while the company has also appointed Shawn Driscoll as head of music-industry relations.
The company has raised $10m in funding to get rolling. Driscoll’s LinkedIn profile reveals a bit more: “Loop is building out around an acquisition of a 30-year old revenue-generating, profitable company that has built one of the world’s largest libraries of music videos, movie trailers and video game trailers licensed from over 1800 content companies serving thousands of locations, websites and accounting for over 400 million views per month,” he explains. Oh, and there’s a blockchain angle: “a utility token that will act as an exchange between Loop, all media venues, and consumers participating in the Loop ecosystem”.
