In today’s data-rich (some would say data-overloaded) music industry, the role of chief information officer – CIO – is increasingly important for large music companies. So Universal Music Group’s appointment of Dan Morales as its CIO is notable news. He joins from a similar role at eBay.

“With Dan as CIO, we are adding an executive with immense talent and experience in building technology and software solutions on a global scale and leveraging technology to deliver growth,” said UMG’s EVP, CFO and president of operations Boyd Muir.

Meanwhile, there’s also a new C-level hire to report at streaming service Deezer.  Laurence Miall – d’Août has been appointed as its chief commercial officer. She’ll join on 2 April, and was previously VP of advanced data and advertising at Liberty Global. “Laurence brings a wealth of commercial experience and a long track record in ad monetisation, partnership strategies and business growth,” said CEO Hans-Holger Albrecht.

This story was amended on 17 March to include Laurence Miall’s correct role: CCO, rather than COO.
