NetEase’s electronic-music brand Fever has worked with research firm Nielsen on a report that tries to quantify the market for dance music in China. Among its claims: that there will be more than 530 million people listening to electronic music in China by 2021.

The report also explores the demographics of electronic-music fans in China: 60% men; 69% below 30 years old; 40% in white-collar jobs and 36% who are students etc.

There’s also a breakdown of which genres are proving popular with Chinese fans: House music (53%) and Bass music (50%) are the top genres, but trap music (39%), trance (37%) and techno / hard dance (both 31%) also do well.

How are electronic-music fans listening? 90% use an app; 46% a video website; 37% a radio app; and 33% are attending live shows, according to the study. They’re keen, too: 87% listen to this music every day.

Fever told Music Ally that anyone interested can follow the company’s accounts on Facebook Messenger or Instagram and direct-message to request a copy of the full report.
