The top 10 artists on YouTube last week generated 1.69bn views between them, according to YouTube’s ‘Global Top Artists’ chart. What’s more, not a single one of them came from the US or Europe. In fact, YouTube’s top 10 for the week of 22-28 March 2019 is entirely made up of artists from India and Latin America.

Indian singer Alka Yagnik topped the list with 204m weekly views, narrowly ahead of Neha Kakkar’s 202m. Farruko, Ozuna, Kumar Sanu, Arijit Singh, Daddy Yankee, Udit Narayan, J. Balvin and Anuel AA made up the rest of the top 10, leaving the likes of Alan Walker, Ariana Grande, Marshmello and Post Malone in their wake.

It’s not quite the same story in YouTube’s ‘Global Top Songs’ chart: Ariana, Marshmello, Maroon 5 and Lady Gaga manage to sneak in. But even then, the current top track on YouTube, by some distance, is Daddy Yankee and Snow’s ‘Con Calma’, which did 86.5m views last week, and is now up to 519.3m since its release on 23 January.
