Music Ally is thinking about podcasts a lot at the moment, given the interest in that world from Spotify, Pandora and other music-streaming services. These companies have the chance to innovate around content, technology AND business models for podcasts, so we’re keeping an eye on interesting stuff that independent companies are up to around those disciplines too.

The latest example is Castbox, one of the established podcast-listening apps. It’s launched a new set of features called Community, which it hopes will build more social activity around podcasts. “A dedicated social feed within the Castbox app that lets podcasters post about their favourite shows and episodes, join trending conversations, and discover popular new content,” as the company puts it. Listeners, meanwhile, can post their thoughts on specific shows, episodes, topics and hashtags. “Podcast listeners are already some of the most engaged audiences in digital media, so the new Community feature will encourage them to keep coming back while also giving dedicated fans a voice in the conversation,” said CEO Renee Wang.
