There’s a new album by Prince coming out: hurrah! But it’s an album of cover versions: boo! But wait, it’s covers of songs that Prince himself wrote for other artists to record: hurrah again!
‘Originals’ will be released on 7 June through a partnership between the Prince Estate, Warner Bros Records and Tidal, with the streaming service getting a 14-day exclusive streaming window before other services get the album.
‘Manic Monday’ and ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ are among the tracks featured, all pulled from Prince’s famous ‘vault’ of unreleased material. “In the spirit of sharing Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted, the album will be available to stream in Master quality via Tidal’s HiFi subscription tier,” explained the announcement.
