Country star Maren Morris is the latest artist to get an ‘Artist Spotlight Story’ from YouTube. It debuted on 10 May: a 15-minute mini-documentary that tracks Morris’ journey from “from her early days singing in honky-tonks, to becoming a songwriter in Nashville, to climbing the charts and breaking new ground in country music as a Grammy-winning performing artist”.

The film also explores the issue of diversity within country music – a topic that Morris has been in the news for this month, voicing her concerns about the male-heavy flagship country playlists on streaming services.

So far, the video has just over 37k views, which is a slow start, but we’ll be interested to see what levers YouTube can pull to get it out there. Morris herself has nearly 227,000 subscribers on YouTube, and 119.5m lifetime views on her channel.
