You’ll be very familiar with BTS but perhaps less so with BT21. Yet they are the same. Sort of. The K-pop group created animated versions of themselves, gave them back stories and also created merchandise lines for them. BTS also refer to them as their “children” which is, ummm, interesting.
Anyway, it’s National Best Friend Day (?) on 8th June and so there are now a series of friend-themed stickers for the BT21 members ahead of the day itself.
The BT21 Messenger camera AR effects will also return for a brief period as part of the promotion. The BT21 Best Friend Forever sticker pack was developed in conjunction with Line Friends. But it’s not just digital stickers as there is a tie-in pop-up shop in London which opened earlier in the week (28th May).
BTS/BT21 are old hands in the stickers game. Back in September 2017, they launched stickers on Line and the characters were downloaded over 8m times in the first month. Then in July last year, it all moved onto Facebook Messenger, offering a range of eight camera stickers, two camera frames, eight AR effects and one sticker pack – all created exclusively for the platform in partnership with Line Friends. So this is really the third big iteration of the BT21 stickers. (Note: the BT21 we are talking about here is not the post code for people who live in Donaghadee in Northern Ireland.)
