One of the quirks of the podcasts market in 2019 is that ‘downloads’ is still an important metric, even as the likes of Spotify and Pandora have made ‘streams’ a bigger part of the market. Still, downloads count, and one of the established music podcasts just announced a new milestone.
‘And The Writer Is…’ is a weekly show where host Ross Golan interviews a songwriter about their process, and their experience of the industry. The show has just wrapped up its fourth season while also announcing that its episodes have been downloaded more than 2m times.
With 65 episodes so far, that averages out to around 31k downloads per episode, although the dynamics of podcasting mean it’s likely to be much higher for recent episodes, and much lower for earlier ones – so it’s not an accurate figure for its audience today.
‘And The Writer Is…’ was one of the podcasts we picked out for our recent report on music and podcasting: read the full report here if you missed it at the time.
