Spotify has made another acquisition in the podcasts space, but this time it’s an individual show rather than a production company or recording app.
Spotify is now the owner of ‘The 500 With Josh Adam Meyers’, a music-focused podcast launched nine months ago with the grand ambition of doing an episode about each of Rolling Stone’s ‘500 Greatest Albums Of All Time’.
As the show’s blurb puts it: “This is the only podcast where you know when it will end, on May 31st, 2028.” Having started at 500, Meyers is currently at 463 in the list. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the podcast will now be a ‘Spotify Original’, but that it will continue to be available on other podcast platforms, rather than being made exclusive to the streaming service.
In separate news elsewhere in Spotify’s business, Vodafone has become the first sponsor of the company’s Discover Weekly playlist in the UK. It’s part of Spotify opening up the opportunity to sponsor its flagship algo-personalised playlist beyond the US – brands can now sponsor it in the UK, Canada, Australia and Latin America according to ad-industry site Campaign.
