Chance the Rapper’s new album ‘The Big Day’ came out on Friday, and was available across the usual range of digital services. However, Chance also struck a deal with ride-sharing startup Lyft to give away download copies of the album.

Lyft riders and drivers alike could download their free copy of ‘The Big Day’ through the service’s app until midnight New York time yesterday (29 July). They were also encouraged to donate to the artist’s CPS: The New Chance Fund arts non-profit organisation by way of saying thanks for the freebie.

This is an existing relationship for Chance the Rapper: in October 2018 he filmed an ‘Undercover Lyft’ video with the company, which saw him working as a Lyft driver to give some of his fans a surprise.

The new partnership won’t give ‘The Big Day’ an artificial boost in the US charts though: Billboard has quickly noted that “gifted downloads” don’t count towards chart rankings there.
