Readers with children of a certain age will know all about Roblox: it’s a giant online sandbox where kids can play games and hang out together, but also create their own games if they want to. Along with Fortnite, it’s been attracting millions of children away from their former gaming haunt Minecraft.

The company behind it just announced a big milestone: 100 million monthly active users, who spend more than 1bn hours a month on Roblox. “Over 50 percent of weekly active users on Roblox play with their friends, fostering a collaborative and connected community,” added the company in its press release announcing the milestone.

“A truly diverse group, 40 percent of players on Roblox are female. The community is also global, with players and creators in over 200 countries.” The news comes less than a year after Roblox raised a $150m funding round that reportedly valued the company at $2.5bn.
