US music-industry trade body the Music Business Association (or Music Biz, as it is often known) will have a new leader from early next month. Dr Portia Sabin will be the organisation’s president from 3 September, taking over from current president James Donio, who will remain in an advisory role after she takes over.
Dr Sabin is currently president of independent label Kill Rock Stars, and also hosts the excellent industry podcast ‘The Future of What’, which she launched in 2014. Before that, she founded artist management firm Shotclock Management, having begun her music career drumming for US band The Hissyfits.
Music Biz runs the annual Music Biz Conference in Nashville, and is also Music Ally’s partner for the annual NY:LON Connect industry conference in New York and London. “I’ve been very impressed with how the Music Biz conference has become a hub for the important discussions that need to be taking place in the industry, and I am excited to be joining an organization that embraces all aspects of the community,” said Dr Sabin in a statement.
