Spotify’s algorithms are being put through their paces again, with the launch of two new algo-personalised playlists by the streaming service. They’re called ‘On Repeat’ and ‘Repeat Rewind’, and are focused on tracks that each individual listener has played frequently. The difference being that ‘On Repeat’ includes tracks that they’ve been hammering in the last 30 days, while ‘Repeat Rewind’ includes tracks “that you played over a month ago”.

Spotify says that the playlists update every five days, stressing that “tracks will never appear on both playlists at the same time”. The new playlists will sit alongside ‘Discover Weekly’ and ‘Release Radar’ in Spotify’s algo-personalised lineup, as well as its ‘Daily Mix’ and ‘Summer Rewind’ offerings. Themed algo-playlists are becoming one of the key areas of competition with Spotify’s fiercest rival Apple Music, with its ‘Favourites Mix’ the closest match for Spotify’s new playlists, plus ‘Friends Mix’, ‘Chill Mix’ and ‘New Music Mix’.
