We’ve written about the growth (and funding) of meditation app Calm, including its musical partnerships with artists like Moby and Above & Beyond. And we’ve also written about the popularity of sleep and relaxation playlists on streaming services: Spotify’s flagship ‘Sleep‘ playlist now has 3.5 million followers, while UMG teamed up with Apple Music for the latter’s ‘Peaceful Music‘ playlist. Now here’s a startup that appears to be getting some traction in this area too. The company is Canadian firm Ipnos, and its app is called Relax Melodies. Available for iOS and Android (as well as on the web) the app has been downloaded more than 50m times so far, with its listeners notching up more than 2.5bn individual sessions. Ipnos says that Relax Melodies’ recent growth has been fuelled by some new categories: ASMR sounds, healing music, bedtime stories, and Yoga Nidra (‘yogic sleep’).
