Research firm eMarketer has published some new estimates and predictions for the size of the US digital-audio market – music-streaming, podcasts, online and satellite radio. The big claim is that by 2020, American adults will be spending more time listening to that than to traditional radio for the first time – averages of 83.9 daily minutes and 79.5 daily minutes respectively.
“More than three-quarters of US internet users will listen to digital audio formats like podcasts and streaming music at least once a month this year,” claimed eMarketer. “Podcast listeners account for a much smaller portion of the US internet population (26.9%), but this audience is growing the fastest. And 30.8% of digital audio listeners will access that content via a smart speaker in 2019.” The figures come from a new report focusing on digital-audio advertising.
