Spotify’s latest playlist-personalisation feature is called Soundtrack Your Ride, and it lives on a website rather than within the company’s app.
Launched for American users (or at least, any Spotify user planning to drive in the US) it’s a road-trip playlist generator. People sign in with their Spotify accounts, use Google Maps to set their start and end points, and then take a quick quiz (about who they’re travelling with; what their favourite genre is for driving; what their ‘drive vibe’ is – mellow, singalongs, pedal to the metal etc – and what their ‘ultimate driving song’ is from a selection ranging from Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Sam Hunt’s ‘Body Like a Backroad’ to Jason Derulo’s ‘Ridin’ Solo’. Oh, and what kind of car they drive, which’ll be highly-useful information for ad targeting, we’d imagine. Spotify will then generate a playlist tuned to the length of the journey: while the map elements only work for the US, overseas people can simply choose a time-length.
